This is a living archive of my thoughts, experiences, and hard-earned insights, drawn from an unusual life. Here you’ll find reflections on the food I’ve eaten, the things I’ve bought, the people I’ve encountered, the places I’ve seen, the books I’ve read, the quotes I’ve kept, and the trends I’ve spotted and capitalized on.
I write this for you, my children, those already here and those yet to come. Daddy loves you more than words can hold. I want each of you to live lives you’re proud of. This is my thinking, in my own voice, left here for you to explore. I hope one day it proves useful.
If, by some unlikely chance, I’m gone before I can guide you in person, let this stand as a poor substitute. But in the more likely case that I’m still here, let this serve as an intellectual archive, a record that I held these convictions long before you were born. May that give weight to my words, and credibility to the wisdom I hope to pass on to you.

Every man always has handy a dozen glib little reasons why he is right not to sacrifice himself. If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the…
She had not known that she was cold until she was no longer cold. Change was what made knowledge possible. A lie became the truth when enough people had reasons to pretend it was true. So much of learning, decided Théra, consisted of forgetting how much you already knew. The world is infinite, but the…
If you think that state-change, being one with the world, and being at peace is so awesome, you should check out the great work that the Tibetan monks have been doing over the last 1000 years or so. They are chill, really at peace, and can even lower their body temperature at will solely through…
IQ is a particularly ugly aspect of science because the IQ literature reveals that which no one would wish to be the case. Which is that there are profound and virtually irremediable differences between people’s cognitive performances and that these differences have a very solid biological and heritable basis. No one wants to hear that…
Which, well. Everywhere I went online this year, I was asked to prove I’m a human. Can you retype this distorted word? Can you transcribe this house number? Can you select the images that contain a motorcycle? I found myself prostrate daily at the feet of robot bouncers, frantically showing off my highly developed pattern-matching…
There are men who bloom in chaos. You call them heroes or villains depending on which side wings the war, but until the battle call they are but normal men who long for action, who lust for the opportunity to throw off the routine of their normal lives like a cocoon and come into their…
Her voice was like a portrait of her soul: wild as a fire, sharp as shattered glass, sweet and clean as clover I am the center of creation. In doing this, let us pass over innumerable boring stories: the rise and fall of empires, sagas of heroism, ballads of tragic love. I have stolen princesses…
Eat to live, don’t live to eat Isn’t it funny that great restaurants always serve you something weird and absurd like seaweed-foam-on-a-cracker. I think that they don’t have the balls to compete on the food that people could legitimately compare. If you order the seaweed-foam-on-a-cracker, how do you know whether they were done properly or…
Rationality suffocates in the air of superstition in the colonies This entire culture is based on hypocrisy, on fakery, on mocking up the appearance for that which cannot be obtained this was the thing about America that he loved the most: the utter faith that family did not matter, that the past was but a…
This whole time I thought that changing the world was something you did. And act you performed, something you fought for. I don’t know if that is true anymore. What is changing the world is just about being here, by showing up no matter how many times we get told we don’t belong. By staying…
